Boeing has awarded Wind River Systems a contract to embed its version of the Linux computer operating system into a new military aircraft. Linux is a Unix-like computer operating system, and unlike Microsoft or Apple proprietary software, it is one of the most prominent examples of open source development and free software. US chat sites ban could hit all kinds of sites

The US House of Representatives has voted by an overwhelming majority to ban social networking sites in schools and libraries. Critics have warned that the ban could apply to a wide variety of sites, some of them of vital educational value. The House passed the Deleting Online Predators Act by 410 votes to 15. The Act forbids publicly funded organisations, such as schools and libraries, from allowing young people to access sites that have chat rooms or 'social networking' elements. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - If the plan works, sports fans soon will have another 24-hour network at their disposal: Olympic TV. The U.S. Olympic Committee is strongly considering launching its own network, filled with live events, archival footage, maybe even a cooking show or two. Home Office 'wrong' over criminalisation of IT pros

The Home Office has been blasted by lawyers over its claims that changes to the Computer Misuse Act (CMA) will not affect legitimate users. Home Office minister Vernon Coaker claimed this week that amendments to the CMA will only criminalise those who make and distribute hacking tools with the intention of breaking the law. Critics of the amendment to Section 42 of the Police and Justice Bill, which would modify the CMA, say a clause criminalising those creating software tools that are likely to be used for hacking would catch legitimate developers too.....READ MORE!


Microsoft and Nortel to codevelop unified communications
